The Pure Luck Myth
Apr 18, 2023Luck is an attractive idea. It’s the possibility that success can come without effort, purely by chance.
Random and unpredictable, luck is often credited as the catalyst for many success stories.
Consider Harrison Ford, who was a carpenter before he became a famous actor. While doing carpentry work in the offices where George Lucas was holding auditions for 'Star Wars', Ford was unexpectedly asked to read for a role. This serendipitous encounter led to his iconic portrayal of Han Solo and launched his acting career.
But relying solely on luck is not a reliable strategy for long-term success. Harrison Ford was lucky, but only because he put in the work as a carpenter. It was this effort that led to his chance encounter with George Lucas.
More often than not, beneath every person’s success lies a similar history of hard work, consistency and sustained effort. Every breadcrumb of effort increases your chances of luck finding you.
Writing a blog, posting regularly on social media, engaging with people on professional platforms, reaching out with personalised messages - these are all actions that expand your surface area for luck to find you.
Luck is not a random stroke of chance, but a result of your intentional efforts and actions.
Do more. Be consistent. Put in the effort.
Give luck more opportunities to come your way.
